The Smokers’ Helpline is a program of the provincial Lung Association. The Helpline offers a variety of services to help people quit smoking. Smoking cessation information and support is available over-the-phone, online, and through email and text messages.
The Health Educator will be involved in delivering smoking cessation services to clients and will have a key role in coordinating and facilitating a variety of promotional initiatives to increase awareness and utilization of the Helpline.
This position is located at the Smokers’ Helpline office in St. John’s, NL (15 Pippy Place).
Key areas of responsibility:
Assist with the delivery of the Helpline’s smoking cessation services (responding to incoming requests through phone, email, online, social media).
Promote smoking cessation and the Helpline services through connecting with community partners via email, phone calls, face-to-face meetings, presentations and social media; developing content to promote the Helpline services (such as articles, reports, social media posts); delivering interactive booth displays, information sessions, and presentations; distributing resources to health professionals and community partners; supporting the Director in delivery of training workshops/conference calls, and other duties as assigned.
25 hours per week.
The Helpline is open Monday to Thursday 9am-9pm and Friday 9am-5pm.
There is some flexibility in the work hours.
While the position is currently funded for 25 hours per week, there may be an opportunity to work additional hours occasionally to cover evenings 5-9pm.
This position requires a university degree in a health-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in health promotion would be an asset.
The successful candidate will have outstanding communication skills as the role will involve an extensive amount of networking with community partners and assisting clients one-on-one.
Compensation commensurate with experience
