Tobacco/Vaping Knowledge Exchange Forum

The NL Alliance for the Control of Tobacco is pleased to invite you to its upcoming Tobacco and Vaping Knowledge Exchange Forum:

This forum will bring together partners to share knowledge and expertise related to best practice and policies that support healthy living.

Topics and Speakers Include:

“Vaping/E-Cigarettes: Implications for Youth, Adults & Public Health”
Dr. David Hammond, Associate Professor and Canadian Institutes of Health Research Applied Chair in Public Health and Health Systems, University of Waterloo

“Tobacco Addiction: Population and Clinical Approaches to Support Individuals to Quit Smoking”
Dr. Peter Selby, Chief, Medicine-in-Psychiatry, Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH)

“Tobacco Control in Canada: Progress & Opportunities”
Mr. Rob Cunningham, Senior Policy Analyst, Canadian Cancer Society

The Forum will also showcase provincial tobacco and vaping initiatives through a variety of short presentations by partner organizations from across the province.

More information about the Keynote Speakers:

David Hammond is a Professor and CIHR Applied Chair in Public Health in the School of Public Health & Health Systems at the University of Waterloo.  Professor Hammond’s research focuses on population-level interventions, including in the areas of tobacco control policy, food and diet, as well as harm reduction and drug policy.  Professor Hammond works closely with governments and NGOs around the world, and has served as an Advisor for the World Health Organiztion.

Dr. Peter Selby is the Chief of Medicine in Psychiatry Division and a Clinician Scientist at CAMH.  He is a Professor in the Departments of Family and Community Medicine, Psychiatry, and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.  He is also a Clinician Scientist in the Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Rob Cunningham is a lawyer and senior policy analyst for the Canadian Cancer Society.  Rob’s area of expertise is in tobacco control legislation and policy, including national and international trends in tobacco.  He has involvement with tobacco control issues at the municipal, provincial, national and international levels; participation in negations for the international tobacco treaty and the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
